after upgrading to freetype2-2.1.7_1 and reverting your libXft (now using libXft-2.1.5) patch konqueror works, but firefox stays broken with japanese pages, it simply vanishes. I could not find corefiles anywhere. An formerly compiled mozilla-1.7a reinstalled worked with japanese pages.
