Well, there has recently been some expressed interest in porting FreeBSD
to the StrongARM processor, but to my knowledge, there hasn't been any
real progress made yet. If you really want to use FreeBSD, you're
probably stuck with using pc104, etc. There are some really nice and
very small boards available (like those available from Advantech) with
support for compact flash and ethernet. People have reported good
success with these devices.

If you need to use an alternative processor and you need something that
is working now, I would recommend looking into the possibility of using
NetBSD.
