The side effect of this is that the drive manufacturers have somewhat higher internal quality standards for SCSI drive models even when the physical mechanism is identical to the IDE model. Of course, this doesn't always mean they are perfect, but it helps to make SCSI drives last longer under a thrashing. And in a news server, thrashing is what they will get.
