My xdm config is stock X11R6. Is it given options to do an XGrabInput()/XGrabKeyboard()/XGrabMouse() such that all input goes to the xdm no matter what (for security reasons)? Apparently this may no longer be an option (checking the sources). How about this: you said that if you run xdm it doesn't work. How about if you don't run xdm -- does it still not work?
