OK I'll attach the output of dmesg at the end. I had a look at /var/log/
messages and it is the same except for other messages by named and 
other daemons that looks perfectly normal. I did boot with -v just
incase it gives some usefull extra info.

There are no other messages to indicate an error except the "COMMAND
FAILED" message. Tar just reports:
"tar: can't write to /dev/nrst0 : Input/output error"

Hmmm. I think you are right. I did a tar again and started ncrcontrol
in another window. It seems like the data stops flowing long (like
tens of seconds) before the error messages pops out. It is more like
it missed an interrupt or something else.
