Subject: USB To Serial Cables on FreeBSD5.0 & 4.7

I have tried 2 types of USB to Serial cables on FreeBSD
One using the uftdi driver and one using the uplcom driver.

When I enable ucom0 as a login device in ttys I get the login message. I can
login and all is fine if I do not have a password. Should the system request
a password the port hangs. If I kill the login process a couple of times the
port will freeup.

With a login without a password I can login, then if I type passwd to set
the password the port will hang, the only way to unhang the port is to kill
the job & shell.

Maybe the hang has something to do with turning off the echo.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Craig Wilson.
