Well, guess what. It now works:
cloned_interfaces="lagg0"
ifconfig_wpi0="ether 00:16:36:f2:3b:84"
wlans_wpi0="wlan0"
ifconfig_wlan0="WPA"
ifconfig_em0="up"
ifconfig_lagg0="laggproto failover laggport em0 laggport wlan0 192.168.2.50

This didn't work ~week or so ago, the exact same lines. I didn't have rc_debug 
on at the time and the /var/log/messages is gone anyway :(. The kernel didn't 
really change either (I went from a custom copy+delete one to an include 
GENERIC with a lot of nodevice/nooptions, but with the same result), so I'm 
stumped. Maybe r195029 fixed this too.
