i think there is a sample of /etc/ntp.conf missing in FreeBSD - for instance:
#driftfile /etc/ntp.drift
#peer put_a_sample_time_server_here
also a notice in /etc/sysconfig about the need to adapt /etc/ntp.conf should
be there
