Hm, but mutt-ng's guys did some work, to make it better ? i think do, so it can be better and
they not write "Forgot all mutt-*, becouse it mutt-ng time, now it's better, faster..."
And if look only on name, what can i say about mutt-devel ? It development version of mutt, right ?
If it development, it buggy, unstable and so on. It tree exist ports/misc/mc and ports/misc/mc-light
what difference ? "-ng" show us author vision on how it must be and all.
 
Main question, if it will be named for example: mutt-nt :) You will agree to put this on ports tree ?
