I tried that:

pull drive out - camcontrol rescan (drive is gone in devlist) - put drive
back in - camcontrol rescan (drive shows up in devlist); but I still get
the error.

Oh, BTW, system is FreeBSD 4.8-RC #0: Thu Mar 27 11:48:39 CET 2003.
