Depending on your application, you may not even need any programming.
If you're talking about connecting a bunch of terminals on one side
to a bunch of serial lines on the other side of the WAN connection,
you can probably do this without custom programming, using standard
FreeBSD applications.

Please describe to me your problem in detail, and I'll see if I can make
some recommendations.  This may not be of interest to -hackers, please
think about this before including the list in your reply.
