There is more than a handful of messages here which
are just speculation on what this is. Simple solution try
and irc to localhost, simple solution two...try a bo client
against the machine...as somebody has mentioned there are
bo emulators which work quite well and you would not need
root to use them, lsof is your friend. 

Issue two I'M not sure total reposts of large messages
which aren't following up on arguments made are required.
