i am fairly new to freebsd, though i have used unix for over 15 years, and
bsdi for the last 4. i hope this is the right list for this....if it
belongs on newbies...please forgive and instruct. :-)

after installing freebsd 3.1 from the cd's i received from walnut cdrom,
i had to use disklable to add bootblocks. once this was done, i rebooted
from the hard drive, and she came up just fine...networked and all.

now, most programs/commands fail. a couple of examples:

$ ps
GLFFregBSD: not found
: not found
ps: 3: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

$ tr
tr: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

what is going on?

thanks in advance.

cheers,
jeff
