We have RAID turned off and had success installing 4.0, but for specific
reasons we wanted to stay in the 3.X branch if possible, and wanted to know
if 3.5 supported the AIC-7899, even in non-RAID mode.

With the PowerEdges, I think you've got to change the BIOS setting so
that it doesn't use the SCSI card as a RAID card. Otherwise, I think
you're out of luck, and may have to get at least 4.2 in order to
install it with RAID.
