Subject: Userconfig settings still not saved in 3.3R?

My userconfig settings are not getting saved in my 3.3R system.
This sounds suspiciously familiar to the FAQ, but no /kernel.conf
file shows up, and the date (and contents) of the /boot/kernel.conf
doesn't change after I make changes in the visual conf editor. (The
original changes I made when I installed the system *were* saved, but
the can't, apparently, be changed.)

Suggestions? Shouldn't this be in an errattum?
