I think a little perspective is necessary here :) There are legitimate uses for "root", installing system wide software being one of them. The point is, that even when you are the only person who will ever use your system, doing everything as root that you do not need to do as root will one day, as sure as eggs is eggs, crucify you. One day you will be logged in as root, you will be in a critical directory and you will type "rm -rf *".
