FreeBSD erwin 7.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #5: Tue Oct 10 09:10:47 EDT 2006 root@erwin:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/ERWIN amd64
>Description:
I have GNOME 2.14 packages installed, and use "gnome-session" in my .xinitrc. This makes metacity my window manager. I also gave the gnome2-office packages installed, and use Gnumeric for a lot of spreadsheet work.

I have been running into a problem where the following happens:

 1. I am using Gnumeric
 2. I switch to another Virtual Desktop [via ALT+CTRL-(Left|Right)]
 3. I switch back to the Virtual Desktop with Gnumeric
 4. Gnumeric appears to start to infinitely allocate RAM (the hard drive starts churning, presumably from swap access)
 5. System screeches to a halt

This is an Athlon64 Mobile with a 4200rpm PATA laptop hard drive. The controller can easily bring the system to a standstill under heavy load. It is very difficult to debug, due to this configuration.
>How-To-Repeat:
1. Run Gnumeric (under Metacity)
2. Switch virtual desktops
3. Switch back
4. System halts
>Fix:
I don't know
