i had installed both from the ports & from the X cvs sources.  i
didn't have problems w/ any ... besides the one that getting cvs
files takes more time than the gzip'd files on a dial up
connection.

as replied by others, use the one that works for you: both w/ your
video card and w/ you memory/binary size requirements.
