Oscar,
the answer to your problem is in the output you were quoting:
"SEARCH_DIR("/lib"); SEARCH_DIR("/usr/lib");"
Just give ld(1) the additional search path using -L and you're done.
The optimal place to set -L is in your makefile. It often works that way.
AFAICT there's no ld.so.conf support for fbsd.
