I've only tried one, but I suspect the best supported cards will be of 
the 11b/g variety.  I can personally vouch for the Linksys Compact 
Wireless-G (WUSB54GC) adapter to work perfectly with the rum(4) driver.

Why not use ifconfig(8) and wpa_supplicant(8)?
