One, unused, partition should be enough. Just make sure you don't have
anyting on it that you might want to keep.

Depending on the BIOS you might have to put FreeBSD's boot partition
somewhere in the first 1024 cylinders of the disk.

If your computer can boot from a CD the installation CD should be
enough.
