FreeBSD procyon.latt.net 9.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE #2: Wed May 29 16:01:42 UTC 2013 msa@procyon.latt.net:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/NET4801 i386
>Description:
Building this kernel with the following succeeds, but the system fails to locate it's PATA drive and subsequently boot:

device ata # Legacy ATA/SATA controllers
#options ATA_CAM # Handle legacy controllers with CAM
options ATA_STATIC_ID # Static device numbering

Setting options ATA_CAM as well, fixes the problem. It appears as if legacy PATA support is broken in 9.1 without enabling CAM, at least on i386.

Kernel config is attached.
>How-To-Repeat:
Build a kernel with device ata on a system that boots from PATA, and exclude options ATA_CAM.
>Fix:
Enable option ATA_CAM.
