Not exactly sure what you're looking at doing here... to build a custom
kernel, you should probably give the handbook section on kernel building a
thorough read-through.  It's at:
http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/kernelconfig.html

But to change "it's IP", what exactly are you trying to do?  Changing the
IP address can be done through /etc/rc.conf and through ifconfig.
