Alternatively, you may consider following the instructions provided in
the FAQ ( http://www.freebsd.org/FAQ/x.html#AEN2870 ).

Personally I simply chose to run the xdm daemon from rc.local and
simply have it sleep for 10 seconds before invoking it.  I haven't had
problems since.
