Yes - you not read the man.

portupgrade -N newport
or sometimes better:

portupgrade -N  portclass/newport

For example
portupgrade -N www/apache2

P.S. Config our MTA to add "reply-to: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org" 
filed then sed messages to this list.
