Interestingly, I get exactly the same behaviour on my Aspire One
(using the Synaptics variant of psm(4)) _without_ dbus/hald.  I've not
had a chance to isolate whether the problem is psm(4), moused(8) or
the Xserver (xorg-server-1.6.1,1 and xf86-input-mouse-1.4.0_6).
