Since the perl library has a ftp tool in it, that's not completely
crazy. The python libraries ftp class is more flexible, though.

The best solution has already been suggested by Daniel Frazier - use
scp with the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file. Even if you're writing a
perl script to invoke the scp commands, that's still a lot saner than
either of those libraries.
