They are already partly API-compatible, because the SHA1 and RIPEMD
code _came_ from OpenSSL.  libcrypto already includes equivalent
functionality to the entire library, it's just the function names
which are different in the MD? case.  I'd like to either build libmd
from the copies of the sources under crypto/ (if they're available)
plus some shims to fix up the MD? API which is slightly different, or
something similar.  I haven't tried to do this yet.

This is why I'd appreciate it if you could submit patches against
libcrypto which also implement the recent changes, so I can submit
them back to OpenSSL and try and get them to accept it.
