Hello,

I installed an Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI card today on the machine running
3.2-RELEASE and ran into a couple of problems. Here is the connection scheme:

						attached to a seagate Sidewinder
						tape drive (drive is terminated)
						|
						|
					68pin internal wide ultra
					connector
68pin internal ultra 2 connector
	 |------------| |---------------|
    | -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    |
    |
  --|
    | |---------------|
    | 50pin internal ultra connector
    | connected through the internal-to-external
68pin external cable to a RAID array (the RAID is terminated).
ultra 2
connector

ultra 2 connectors are not used. On the boot, the card detects both devices. First problem:
During the boot, I get an error:
Waiting 15 seconds for SCSI devices to settle
(probe0:ahc0:0:2:1): parity error during Command phase
SEQADDR == 0x15c
SCSIRATE == 0x95
panic: RAM parity error, likely hardware failure.

syncing disks...done

If I disable parity using the scsi card setup utility, the errors go
away, but I am not sure that disabling parity is a good thing.
Before, the same setup was used with Adaptec 2940 Ultra SCSI adapter
with the parity enabled.

Second problem: if I boot with the parity off and try to mount a partition from a RAID,
I get the message:
# mount /dev/da0s1a /mnt
mount: Device not configured
as if the devices weren't compiled into the kernel (I am using a GENERIC kernel).
dmesg shows:

The SCSI card and the disk da0 are both recognized, and if I move the disk da0 to the old
computer with the old SCSI card and the same kernel, I can mount the partition.
Do you think the card could be defective? I have wasted a whole day on that
thing and ran out of ideas -- any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

	Vladimir
