I believe whatever window manager you run is run at the end of your
.xinitrc file.  The system default is in something like
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit or .../X11/config, and should be 2 filese;
system.xinitrc and system.twmrc, or something like that; it'll vary.
just change the entry at the end of system.xinitrc (you'll need to be root
and change the permissions to change the file) from something like 'exec
twm' to 'exec fvwm' or whatever path fvwm might be in.
you'll probably need a .fvwmrc file in your home dir which has your fvwm
init settings, but the window manager is run aht the end of .xinitrc.
