It will just skip sites that do not start with one of the strings specified in this variable. For example: PORTS_FETCH_PROTOCOLS=http:// will skip ftp://ftp.foo.org/x/y/z from a list of sites like: http://a/b/c ftp://ftp.foo.org/x/y/z http://bar/baz Or even we can have similar _REJECT variable in addition that removes only sites that start with specified strings.
