 I forgot one small but possibly important point. The "delayed event
 syndrome" applies not only to input events. For example, when a window
 is brought to the front, it often does not get repainted until I move
 the mouse a bit. And then, if it was partially obscured before, I can
 see more and more bits getting filled in as I move the mouse.
