Sure, but be aware of ARP bugs in all recent versions of FreeBSD if you
intend to use proxy-arp for routing.

It's different, not necessarily any easier.  However, PPP is becoming
more standard than SLIP, so you may find it easier to get connected to a
PPP server vs. a SLIP server.
