I should also have noted that clang++ can report the __Static_assert syntax as
not-C++ syntax but C11 instead:

# clang++ -Wall -pedantic main.cc
main.cc:2:1: warning: _Static_assert is a C11-specific feature
[-Wc11-extensions]
_Static_assert(1,"Test");
^
1 warning generated.
