Do you have X installed?  
Do you have the aout compatibility versions of the X libraries installed
if you are running 3.1 or 3.0-ELF (the jdk is currently aout only, although 
this is likely to change very soon)?
Does ld.so know to look in the appropriate directories for these libraries?
