You will notice a substantial difference running an IDE at UDMA100 than
in a PIO mode..at least I do. I mean you won't notice it when you do an
"ls", but you will when you do a "buildworld".

As remarked above, I have never really felt that the extra cost of 7200
over 5400 adds much general-purpose value, makes more noise though.
