sarah:/var/home % cd 
sarah:~ % ll .forward 
-rw-rw-r--  1 imb  staff  20 Feb 16 02:56 .forward
sarah:~ % cat .forward 
\imb
imb@scgt.oz.au

 .. works just fine for me on -stable with sendmail 8.7.5 and no overrides
on where .forward files can be, i.e. default sendmail configuration,
