You can set STRIP and STRIP_CMD to empty for not stripping the binaries 
and add -g to CFLAGS.
E.g. make STRIP="" STRIP_CMD="" CFLAGS+=-g install
This should work for you. You can also place these to /etc/make.conf if 
you want to use this every time.
