Can you help? No, I can't. It isn't a general tape problem, so it is something specific to this environment. How about turning on debugging and trying again? That should get us some more info. You'll have to compile your kernel with the SCSIDEBUG option, and then turn on debugging on the tape drive using the scsi(8) "-d" flag.
