xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of
the machine on its current connection.  I
guess you'd have to hope your ISP didn't
cut off your box while you were in the taxi...

In theory, you could even use "dynamic DNS"
to make this actually work with a domain
name that you purchase.  But, as you 
noted in your email, that's not a real good idea.

I do something similar at home via my home
ethernet network.  I even assigned a name,
known only by my "main box," that resolves
to the "test box."
