You don't need special hardware... I have a soundcard in my computer, and
most new computers come with soundcards so this isn't that 
far fetched.

I've never actually installed FreeBSD from a CD or DVD, I just use my DVD
drive specifically for watching movies, and now that FreeBSD can play
them, I can remove winblows from my computer. :-)
