Here's a better way...

 1. Create the directory structure
     /usr/local/config/kdm/authdir

 2. go to /usr/lcoal/config/kdm

 3. create a file called "Xsetup"
in it put the line "kdmdesktop &"

 4. create a link file Xsession
     ln /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/lib/xdm/Xsession Xsession

 5. go to /etc edit or create "rc.local"
     Add the line "/usr/local/bin/kdm"

6. in you home directory create a .xsession file
in it put the line "/usr/local/bin/startkde

7. Reboot and enjoy :)
