I've had the same experience with a D-Link DWL-650 card and an SMC Barricade SMC7004AWBR access point. Using a Libretto100CT and Win98, I can successfully use both 40 bit and 104 bit encryption. But with 4.5-RELEASE, and -stable (of a few days ago), I cannot communicate with the access point when encryption is enabled. The changes that FUJITA Kazutoshi posted don't help. I'm guessing that there is a format difference on the keys. Both the SMC access point and the D-Link Win98 software enforce a 10 hex digit key with 40-bit (64bit) encryption. Similarly, a 26 hex digit key for 104-bit (128bit) encryption. For typing convenience, I use these hex digits: 1234567890 and 12345678901234567890123456 respectively. For FreeBSD, I have tried wicontrol -k 0x1234567890 and wicontrol -k 0x12345678901234567890123456 respectively. But the Libretto100CT/DWL-650 under FreeBSD won't talk to the access point if encryption is enabled. Does anyone see where I have gone wrong?
