Almost surely, this is a reverse-DNS lookup problem.  Your
machine (the one running the ftp client) does not have a reverse
DNS entry.

If you don't want to set the DNS right, just add your machine's IP
and hostname to the /etc/hosts file of the server (the machine
running the ftp server).
