There's one catch. Soft udpates causes free space to be available slightly slower than otherwise. I don't mean that deleting a file is slower - I believe the opposite is true - but that you aren't able to use the space that's been freed by deleting the file immediately. So the sequence of deleting and then recreating a file larger than the free space on the drive will fail where it wouldn't have before.
