The easiest way I've found is to download the CD ISO image and burn it to a
cd, and install from there. Then setup your net, and ftp install all the
rest of the goodies you need. You probibally want to download the 4.2
-RELEASE version, then upgrade to 4.3 when it's released. The CD ISO is at
ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.2-install.iso
<ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.2-install.iso>;
. Or if you really want to d/l the whole os by ftp, you can just make the
boot floppies
ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/4.2-RELEASE/floppies/
<ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/4.2-RELEASE/floppies/>;  and
install the rest by ftp, your choice. Hope this helped.

Matt

P.S. the handbook answered many questions for me when I first started.
