I installed a WMP11 card in my desktop machine hoping to use it as a base station, but at least under FreeBSD-STABLE (as of Aug 10), I've been unable to get my OS X Powerbook to "see" it in either hostap or ad-hoc modes. FreeBSD recognizes the card; here's the relevant bit from dmesg: wi0: <Intersil Prism2.5> mem 0xf6aff000-0xf6afffff irq 9 at device 8.0 on pci1 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:06:25:09:59:d1 wi0: using RF:PRISM2.5 MAC:ISL3874A(Mini-PCI) wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary 1.01.00, Station 1.04.02 Would upgrading the firmware help? I had been in contact with a very helpful Australian named Andrew who has this card and is using it in hostap mode with an iBook running OS X, so I know it's possible, but I've tried numerous 'ifconfig' and 'wicontrol' options to no avail. He's also running an older version of STABLE than I am; would another cvsup/make world help? I know the card is not defective because I broke down and installed Windows NT just to see if I could get it working under a "supported" platform. Under Windows in ad-hoc mode the Powerbook sees it and they can communicate with each other, but it should go without saying that running Windows is not a solution. I'd appreciate any help, and if there's any other information I should provide but didn't, please let me know.
