This style of emphasizing looks okay.  There will probably be problems
when one tries to emphasize a single `*' character, as in:

	<emphasis>*</emphasis>

but this should not stop you from trying to make the ASCII docs
look better.  First we need something that works, then we can refine
it if/when such problems appear.
