After you sent this, I cvsup'ed RELENG_4 for src-all. I didn't have any
problem making and installing the new system.

Your latest email to hackers has you building 4.3-release. I built a
number of systems using cvsup to grab the 4.3-release source. I have to
assume that you don't have something /usr/src or etc. installed on your
system.

Text of my 6 July installworld for 4.3-stable looks like

coral# head iw*706*.log
mkdir -p /tmp/install.31
for prog in [ awk cat chflags chmod chown date echo egrep find grep
install ln make makewhatis mtree mv perl rm sed sh sysctl test true
uname wc zic; do cp `which $prog` /tmp/install.31; done
cd /usr/src; MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX=/usr/obj
COMPILER_PATH=/usr/obj/usr/src/i386/usr/libexec:/usr/obj/usr/src/i386/usr/bin
LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/obj/usr/src/i386/usr/lib:/usr/obj/usr/src/i386/usr/lib
OBJFORMAT_PATH=/usr/obj/usr/src/i386/usr/libexec  CFLAGS="-nostdinc -O
-pipe -march=pentiumpro"
PERL5LIB=/usr/obj/usr/src/i386/usr/libdata/perl/5.00503  GROFF_BIN_PAT

This proceeded to create a 567KB file.

How did you get the source before you started the build and what release
were you using at that time>
