check /usr/X11R6/bin/g*-config

If you installed gtk/glib from the ports the g*-config's are renamed to
allov separate versions. I have a symlink to the newest ones for
compiling non-ports.

ln -s gtk11d-config gtk-config
or
ln -s gtk12-config gtk-config
